According to latest Google Trends data, six out of top ten cities across the world are searching for ‘porn’ on Google search engine in India. New Delhi is leading the Google searches for porn, followed in an order by Pune, Mumbai, Howrah, Unnao, Kuala Lumpur and Bangalore. The data is a reflection to both fetishes and perversion.

However, Sociologists denied to link up on-line search with off-line behavior and opines that key words searches in Google are also reflective of continued curiosity. Since 2008, Pune is the highest for 'animal porn' searches, followed by New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. As per the data on highest use of keyword 'Rape porn', cities were Kolkata, Howrah, New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Pune. Highest search for 'child sex' is found in a small town in UP, Unnao.

A statement on the Google Trends data says, "If at most 10% of searches for the given region and time frame were for "pizza", we'd consider this 100."

Ajit Hatti, a cryptography expert, says that the data is correct but not complete. "There are countries like China, Russia and North Korea that do not use Google or have extremely limited usage. Then in countries like United States and United Kingdom, many use different search engines," said Hatti, a security researcher and co-founder of India's largest open security community, Null.

Pointing out to the poor internet literacy besides low language skills among the users of the internet, Hatti said, "We do not know English well. People in developed nations, instead of searching for the word porn, directly go to a porn site. But many in India search for the word porn or sex and then click on the link that appears. This adds to the numbers on the Google Trends List."
