We generally believe that the iron supplement can energise the woman to have sufficient strength and blood during the pregnancy, and it can ensure in avoid the anemia like situation. But, new study report says that there is no significance in consuming or having the iron supplements both for mother and baby during the pregnancy.

The new recommendations come from the US Preventive Services Task Force (UPSTF).  A second review about the supplements of iron explained that the effects on infants and toddlers also found no evidence supporting the alleged improved growth or development.

Scientists realized that there is insufficient evidence to recommend that pregnant women, infants or children improve their diet with iron supplements or be screened for iron deficiencies. However, researchers could not provide evidence against this practice either. This shows that, while taking iron supplements has no negative effects on health, there is no reason to take the supplements either.

Generally the pregnant woman (healthy woman), who is showing no iron needs at most 27 milligrams of iron per day. But, the scientists analyzed evidence from 11 trials on pregnant women that participated in test screening for iron supplements. And confirmed that there was no impact of the iron supplements in woman’s quality of life like underweight newborns, preterm birth or infant death, and weak birth.

The report might have studied in different aspect, but the iron supplement is believed to be an important medicine or ingredient in pregnant women’s lifestyle in order to ensure successful and healthy delivery. Obstetrician advice is important before deciding yourself.
